Wow! This gemstone, Yooperlite, looks like there are tiny flames inside when you cast a UV Light on it. This Yooperlite (UV Light-Fluorescence) gemstone bracelet is made with 8mm sized beads. Yooperlite is a type of syenite rock rich in sodalite, a fluorescent mineral. Under UV light (especially longwave), it glows bright orange and yellow, making it visually striking.
Discovery: A fairly new discovery, Yooperlites were discovered in 2017, by Erik Rintamaki, a rock hunter from Michigan. While exploring the beaches of Lake Superior at night using a UV flashlight, he noticed glowing rocks no one had previously identified as special.
Name Origin: The name "Yooperlite" comes from "Yooper" (a nickname for people from Michigan's Upper Peninsula) + "lite" (a nod to its glowing nature).
Where It's Found: Mostly along the Lake Superior shoreline in Michigan, especially in the Upper Peninsula, but similar sodalite-bearing rocks have since been found in other parts of North America.
